A powerful punch in made in just 15 minutes in a short that kicked off San Diego’s opening night of Film Out on Friday night.
Multi-award-winning German director Kai Stänicke debuted the West Coast premiere of his movie simply titles “B.” about a doll with wide blue-eyes. The tender, surprising, shocking and beautiful love story that ensues with the doll and her word.
B. is a doll who supposed to be with the cute male doll K. (Obviously copyright infringements prevent them from using anything more obvious about identifying the perfect male and female dolls. But, B has a bisexual side to her, and she’s longing for a red-headed wild child whom she fantasizes about. It also turns out K. has his own bisexual
side, too, and gives longing glances to his best buddy while they’re double-dating or working out at the gym. (You realize, by the way, these are all dolls doing these things.)
The dolls also hump each other, and do other amazing things in their stop-action motion while not saying a thing and communicating mostly by grunts and facial expressions.
B. with her wide blue eyes and coquettish smile is drinking at a bar and talking to the red-head when she is shunted off to the side and told to sit with K. Her attractions are ignored, but she follows through with the way she is supposed to be, right down to an all-white wedding in an amazingly touching and violent wedding scene.

Although all the characters seem to have a bisexual side, it’s more about suppressing their same-sex attractions that really make the characters explode. The storyline continues in cartoon even as the credits roll and the film ends.
Kai Stänicke made waves in the film festival circuit directing and producing a film called “Own Drum.” The 29-year-old was born in Berlin and won a slew of awards. Other shorts include a comedy "Flamenco Surealisto, " "Cold Star," and "It's consuming me" which premiered at the Frameline Festival in San Francisco.
“Gay Goth Scene” is a short film about a goth guy with jet-black hair and lip piercings who get taunted and bullied by schoolmates, and
